Day 292/22. Crash Test Dummy ?

Here's a piece of history. This is a test dummy made for early testing of the first ejection seats from aircraft.
Made of leather, this handsome chap survived a good few test firings in the early days of jets.
He was installed into the aircraft ejection seat and then inflated to fit before they pressed the fire button.
What I cannot understand though is why they would choose to place the inflation valve in his eye socket? Macarbe or what? Certainly troubling.....
See extra image for his full size.
Is this the first early sighting of a Borg? (If you know, you know)
