The Red Lion

My friend Ross, one of my very good friends from university, retired* earlier this week. I suggested that we might celebrate by meeting up in Liverpool to visit Bob's new venture. And once Ross was up for it, it seemed daft not to invite Ash and Ian, too: friends reunited.

And so we met up this afternoon to see the end result of Bob's latest project, The Red Lion, which was to create a quintessential British pub. Suffice to say that, characteristically, he has done a tremendous job of it.

And after a couple of drinks there, we had lunch in Papillon (another one of Bob's), which was splendid. Fed and watered, we agreed to regroup at five o'clock on Lark Lane to visit some more of Bob's venues.

No one else was keen to walk across, so I queued up some music and set off on a solo stroll, taking in the Anglican Cathedral (see Extra), and Sefton Park.

And we had a splendid evening, too. We have been friends for, blimey, thirty-seven years now, and the guys make for wonderful company, as they always have.

*At least for now.
