Is it a crocodile?

Actually it’s what happens to the asphalt the Council uses to fill in potholes caused by heavy rain. The asphalt breaks up into lumps that are said to resemble the hide of a crocodile and this process is known as crocodiling (or alligatoring). The next stage is that the fragments of asphalt get pushed to the side of the road and block the gutters. The potholes are exposed and get bigger and the whole process starts again. So I’m told.
