Smoky conditions
I hesitated to out this morning, it was so smoky, but I really felt the need for a good walk. I could really feel the effects of the smoke in my breathing and eyes. I decided not to work in the garden for as long as I'd planned.
The main shot is looking across the harbour from the road down to the village. The extra is taken from the dock looking down the harbour, not sure if the two paddle boarders were enjoying being on the water in these conditions. Weird light again. I'm including a quote at the end that I also added to my other journal. We're getting smoke coming up from Washington State as well as from fires in the province.
A really tough loss for Kalyn's team last night. The competition was the team in 2nd place in the conference and ranked 11th in the country. In the first match they played, this team won in three sets. Our team took them to 5 sets this time and there were some great rallies. The scores were 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 8-15. It was awesome that the girls came back to win the 4th set after losing the 2nd and 3rd. Despite injuries to starters with a couple not playing because of concussions and two playing injured, including Kalyn, the team pulled together and played well. Can't wait to go over for their home games later this week.
Quote about the fires:
'The extreme drought conditions across much of British Columbia are leading to a rapid rise in wildfires, according to provincial officials.
The B.C. Wildfire Service said while it's not unusual to see new fires sparking in October, the rate at which they're starting this month is far from normal.
“What is unusual for the time of year are the widespread drought conditions we are facing and the number of new wildfire starts per week,” said Briana Hill, fire information officer.' (from the CTV news website)
