Day 123 of 365 - The remains of Caludon Castle!

Welcome to day 123 of 365 (Finished image after Editing)

The original photo was taken this afternoon. It is of the remains of Caludon Castle in the Wyken area of Coventry. The site was occupied from at least the time of Lady Godiva in the 11th century until about 1815. After the Norman conquest of England in 1066 the land and property passed from Godiva to the Earl of Chester. Up until the beginning of the 14th Century the property on the site was known as a Manor house. In 1305 the Manor was re-styled as a castle. The castle and lands have passed through various families over the centuries. The castle being rebuilt on several occasions. One of the more notable and powerful families to own the site were the Berkeley's. Having owned the site from about 1490 until 1613. The Berkeley family now reside in another great country house Berkeley Castle in County of Gloucestershire. It is said that Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' was commissioned to celebrate a Berkeley wedding. Unfortunately for Caludon Castle after the Berkeley family moved on, the castle fell into disrepair and was all but destroyed during the mid 1660's. Eventually the the estate was sold on to the local council and was mainly used for housing developments.

The Castle Remains are classed as both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building. The Remains are number 4 on my list of 19 (Grade I) Listed buildings and number 2 on my list of 10 Scheduled Ancient Monument's in Coventry that I hope to photograph.

First of all I used Snapseed to edit the image. The edits were made by sharpening the image a little and adding some extra structure to the photo. I also boosted the saturation, contrast, ambiance and brightness. Finally I used Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Cole overlay and the Karma Texture.
