Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

St Mary's

I'm sure that I already posted this picture for the 1st as I remember (I think) posting a second stained glass window in a row, however there is op post now, as was pointed out by blipper Pleach, for which thank you!
So, whether posted before or not, here it is again.
This stained glass is in St Mary's Dalkeith, at the edge of the country park. It's the church of the Buccleugh family and is actually in the grounds of their estate. The family burial vault lies under a large trapdoor in the floor of the North transept.
This, the East window was made in France and dates from the 1840s, a photograph can't do justice to the richness of the colours, it's simply stunning. The vaulting is superb, it's a lovely space and as you can see from the loaf on the altar, they are celebrating their harvest thanksgiving tomorrow.
I was in the church for another Cursillo gathering, it's a real bonus being able to visit so many lovely churches all over the country.
I drove through a beautiful rainbow on the way to Dalkeith, this is definitely the season for them.
I have also posted for today 9th October, so do check that out too
