Low tide at St. Andrews
A lovely morning so we jumped in the car to head off for St. Andrews. Of course by the time we got there it was overcast and dull. Jacket weather. We've been going to St. Andrews for years. The beach there is fantastic and lovely to walk along - a real tonic. We went to the smaller beach today, down by the harbour. These piers, which shelter the small harbour, appear ancient. Students from the University parade up and down the long pier to the left on Sundays in full regalia, or at least they used to. The town is kept alive by the University, full of young people in amongst the old buildings and colleges. I love the place in mid-winter, when it's windy and wet and empty of people. It's easy then to imagine that it's hundreds of years ago and that you're on the edge of the world. Anyway, it was low tide this afternoon, and this view always captivates me.
