Frome Market

On a beautiful sunny morning I had the chance to see a bit of Frome. We’ve been in the area before visiting friends but not had time to see the town.

It is a wonderful mix of old buildings, narrow alleyways, walls and paths and lovely shops. The house we are staying in was built in 1705. It is a hilly place so lots of cardio work walking around.

Today was market day - in Market Square. This is right next the Cheap Street which has a channel of water running down the middle of the street. The water comes from a well outside the church of St John the Baptist, Frome Selwood. It has a beautiful interior and the site of the church dates back to AD 685.

In the afternoon we went to our friends’ house for a 60th birthday party. One of the more unusual gifts he received was a signed (large) rugby ball from 1995, the year England won the Grand Slam. For a Englishman who plays rugby it was a fitting present.
