Street art
I blipped one of the three new murals that were painted in town recently. I had an unexpected trip to town this morning and had a chance to take a photo of this one. One to go.
The mural Island Hopping was painted by Damian John and "...colourfully depicts Indigenous people in motion with various local animals.
'There's a little bit of parkour to get through the islands with the animals helping the people and the people being with the animals,' he said." (quote from the Gulf Islands Driftwood, Sept. 21)
John identifies as a Tl’azt’en German Irish Austrian Hungarian Canadian. The Tl'azt'en Nation is in the northern interior of the province.
Parkour definition:
the activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing.
It was challenging to get a decent photo of this one because of its location in a narrow lane. I couldn't quite get the full mural in the photo.
Posting early today because we're watching the Blue Jays play the Seattle Mariners in the 2nd of the wild card games to continue into the next round of the playoffs. They lost the first game yesterday in the best of 3 series.
Kalyn's team plays at 5pm, so 2 games for us today! Her team lost on Thursday night, 3 sets to 2. Hoping for a better result today.
