Basil-thyme
Our last survey visit to the main part of Whitemoor Railway sidings, visiting three compartments that we didn't get to in July, and trying to add a few extra things to some of the others, though this was only moderately successful - there still hasn't been enough rain or low enough temperatures to stimulate germination of most of the spring annuals.
We always find something new or interesting, and today the highlight was this single plant of Basil-thyme, a Red List Vulnerable species, in a compartment where it's not been recorded previously. There was only one plant and it was less than 2 cm tall, so I'm not sure whether it will establish. Unless we are invited to do further scaled-down monitoring, I may never know!
