Local Landscape
The 820 acre site of Fiddlers Ferry power station has been acquired by Peel N&R. It’s allocated for a mix of employment uses and housing, and an application has been submitted to Warrington Council for the demolition of the existing structures starting towards the end of this year. The four northern cooling towers ( those on the right here) would be the first structures to go. The stated intention is to complete the development by 2040 - we’ll all be a lot older by then.
The power station is a familiar feature of the landscape, and it’s disappearance will feel strange. I am going to take photos of it from a variety of viewpoints over coming months as a little photographic project. So this is a starter.
In the foreground (I’ve blipped this before) is a dog training area. I’m en route to the Sankey Canal marina.
