PINKTOBER - DAY 5

Hello Lovely Blippers,

Laura Lamb and Reeth here - thought we would update you on what the HCBs have been doing today - and we have to say, not much!  The rain was lashing down this morning, so they decided to stay in and have a lazy morning.  In fact, they knew that one of their Blip friends, Amanda_T was going to be on BBC Radio Bristol, so listened to her talking about caring for her husband at home - and she did very well, so they said. 

Later on in the morning, having decided that she wasn’t doing any cooking at all this week, they either had to arrange a lunchtime snack at the lodge or go out for lunch - and she opted for the latter.  After some discussion, they both agreed that they would visit Stoneygate Farm Shop, which was quite near to where they stayed last year, so off they went in the pouring rain, which made driving rather unpleasant, but Mr. HCB is a brave soul and coped very well.

They told Mrs. Satnag - and we mean the proper one, not Mrs. HCB - where they wanted to go and she took them down some very narrow lanes - so it was a good job they didn’t meet any large lorries, or it would have been a hard job getting through - we have to report they came home a different way!

When they arrived at the farm shop, Mr. HCB told their waitress that he had had one of the “Big Malc” burgers last year and was so impressed that he had come for another one.  Phew, we were pleased about that - and were happy to note that there was no mention of any pork or lamb - which would have been rather insulting and disrespectful to us, don’t you think?  

You can see that we were both looking at the food enviously and both Mr. & Mrs. HCB said their burgers were delicious - with apologies to any vegetarians or vegans reading!

We know that Mrs. HCB “clicks” on the Breast Cancer website every single day and sometimes more than once a day, which you can do, and we hope all of you are clicking at least once every day too.  You can find it HERE, and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what to do, but it does mean that those who cannot afford to pay for a mammogram, can have one for free.

We are now back home in our warm and cosy lodge and we think that before too much longer the HCBs will be out in the hot tub, but we are going to have a rest while they are enjoying themselves.

Mrs. HCB wanted to put in an extra collage - we stopped on the way back in Ravensworth, where she had seen an old castle - which apparently was built in the late 14th Century by Henry FitzHugh, possibly as a replacement for an earlier fortification.  It passed into Crown ownership in 1571 but was neglected and by the early 17th Century, it was in a state of disrepair - so sad.  However, we and she thought that this would be a good shot for Derelict Sunday. 

We also saw a very old AC sporty type car in Ravensworth, just past the castle.  Mrs. HCB found out it was first registered in 1951, so is now 71 years old, just a few years younger than she is!  

Then there is a shot of Mr. HCB posting a card to Mr. T, Amanda_T’s husband, as we had promised we would.  The old George VI postbox was in the wall of a house, with a very pretty garden in front and next to an old red telephone box, but which was now filled with books - we noticed that Mrs. HCB quickly dragged Mr. HCB away and told him he had enough books at home!  

The last shot is of some orange sheep we saw in Caldwell, near where we are all staying.  We understand that a farmer in the Lake District dyed his sheep this colour to stop them being stolen, because they are now a luminous orange colour - Mmmm, I’m not sure I would like to be dyed that colour, I love my white fleece and I’m sure that Reeth is quite happy being pink - especially during Pinktober!
