Wild And Wonderful
There are around 170 species of Banksia in Australia; it's a bit of a surprise that a giant such as this is classified as a wild flower - though it is more like a shrub. This is not a single flower but thousands of tiny flowers growing from a woody central spike. These blooms are around 25cm tall.
I blipped this at the end of Maple Stree, Maleny's main shopping street, where most folk pass it by without a second glance - probably as it is just next to the tempting menu board for one of the town's best cafes!
A busy day of getting ahead of work things and putting this house to bed for a few weeks before the flight from Brisbane tomorrow (Sunday) via Dubai then on to Heathrow.
