The remains of Hurricane Ian have arrived in the UK, fortunately nowhere near as calamitous as in the USA. As I scurried into a shop earlier, seeking essential supplies (pomegranate seeds and coriander leaves) I heard a sentence never before uttered, about rain in Pennine Lancashire - “we’re just not used to it, are we?”
