See Monster

On 30th April we made a pilgrimage to Hull to see the light show “About us”. It was part of a U.K. wide festival funded by our government to celebrate Britain leaving the EU. I was unaware of that motive in Hull and only vaguely aware today in Weston super Mare.

We broke our journey home from Bude to visit this former North Sea gas drilling rig , temporarily beached just off Weston’s promenade. It has been turned into a “See Monster”.

It has become an art installation with trees, plants, an exciting slide and a serious number of steps to get to the top. This really is a one off opportunity to explore a rig and appreciate the sheer size and height of this structure. Not for those who suffer from vertigo, though.

Admission - free. At Weston until 5th November when it will be shipped off to be recycled.

The news today was dominated by our very new PM floundering. I thought this beached, repurposed rig, only here fleetingly, was an appropriate analogy!

Cost of all ten projects is £120 million
Original title : Festival of Brexit.
Attendance to date :poor.
New title “Unboxed”

I leave you to draw your own conclusions!
