New mural in town

A call for artists to paint murals in town was put out a few months ago by the local Chamber of Commerce and the Arts Council. It was an open call for both local artists and artists from across the country. I had a chance to take some photos of one of the three new ones and hopefully will get photos of the other two. This one is painted on Glad's Gelateria which changed owners and has been renovated. It's difficult to get a photo of the entire mural because of the location.
David Camisa is the artist of this one, called Rise Up, and the theme is climate change. Glad's Gelateria sits in an exact spot that "...is expected to be impacted by rising waters and king tides in coming decades. It portrays curling waves where salmon jump as a determined looking woman holds a heron."
Camisa is from Vancouver.  "He said his work is often quite whimsical and 'an escape from reality,' which made him wonder if a mural raising awareness of a serious subject like climate change was the right choice for him. But on reflection he realized that approaching the serious subject through the eyes of an optimist was an appropriate choice....'I see hope in this piece.' "  (quotes from the Gulf Islands Driftwood, Sept. 21)
I think that it's a very striking mural. Extra: part of the mural with salmon jumping. I posted another part of the mural in my other journal.
I didn't do a stick of work in the garden today, very unusual! I went grocery shopping then did some much needed housework. The work in the garden will be there for me tomorrow.  :-)
