WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Shut the Door!

I forgot to take a photo today so here you have our Bella all cosy with Monkey, Puppy and Ted. The stove is lit so she is happy.
Tonya is just drawing a sketch of her.

Thinking about all the cutting down on heating and electricity brought back memories of when I was a girl in the late 60’s.

Shut the Door!

Remember that fake coal fire
with the 4 electric bars
and the solid teak surround?
How we huddled round it in Winter,
then Dad would come home from work
rubbing his cold hands together.
‘Brrrrr - it’s parky out there’,
he’d say as he nudged us kids aside,
to warm his bum.
The coals and embers were moulded plastic
with three whizzy things underneath
to make the red bulbs inside flicker like real.
‘Shut the door!’ Dad would shout
if anyone went in or out,
‘Keep the heat in, I’m not putting 4 bars on!’
And woe betide if one of us left on a light.
There was no heat in the bedrooms, just extra
hot water bottles, grey army blankets or coats.
Now, here we are again,
‘Shut the door, keep the heat in!’
‘Switch that light off!’

This morning I did a bit of tidying in the garden then cleaned the living room.
The weather has been beautiful if a little cold.

Goodnight ;-) X
