The Crown Engine Houses
These must be the most photographed mine remains in Cornwall, and I have blipped them many times, and in all weathers, but it is still one of my favourite views.
We set off from here today
( Tuesday... Internet not been working)
and walked along the coastal path past West Wheal Owles used as Ross Poldark’s Wheal Leisure.
Fabulous views of Cape Cornwall and the Long Ships Lighthouse.
The colour of the sea looked too blue to be real.
Past the Iron Age fortifications of Kenidjack Cliff Castle, and then the steep and stoney path down into the Kenidjack Valley.
So peaceful now following the little Tregeseal River down to the sea.
Hard to believe that during the 1800s there were once up to 50 waterwheels along this valley providing power for the mines, crushing mills and arsenic works.
Another fabulous new walk for us. Didn’t expect the hot sunny weather! Could have done with it being a bit cooler. The coastal paths aren’t easy round here and we were shattered when we got back to the car.
A small group were filming on the cliffs when we got back. As I walked past the camera man was telling a lady to walk back further, and I said
“ Be careful you don’t go over!”
She replied “ No chance of that.”
Then I realised it was Fern Britton. No doubt filming a new series of My Cornwall, or something similar.
Extra of some views taken on the walk.
