Blawhorn Moss

After a lazy few days, we headed out as a family for a “short walk” despite my youngest protests.

We headed to Blawhorn Moss Nature Reserve near Blackridge, which is accessed along a bumpy single-track road off the A89.

From the small car park, you can head along a track through woodland and open fields to the boardwalk at Blawhorn Moss which has been extended since our last visit and has sculptures and information boards placed around it.

We spotted many dragonflies and butterflies, and of course, the local sheep made themselves known to us too.

Blawhorn Moss itself is actually one of the few remaining sites left of a raised and blanket peat bog in Central Scotland. It is a lovely peaceful, open space to explore and enjoy all year round.
