A beautiful day out

With my friends in Bournemouth. L has finished her chemotherapy, and as it clears her body she has more energy. We went to RSPB Arne, which is a heavenly spot on Poole Harbour. We saw masses of birds - egrets, redshanks, herons galore.  There are spoonbills but we didn’t spot them. We had a picnic on a bench, and the sun was warm but not hot. L had the use of a ‘tramper’ a kind of rough terrain golf cart which was just brilliant. It runs at two speeds, with little pictures by the switch to indicate the choice - tortoise or hare. Of course L went at hare speed so we had a brisk walk behind her:) She’s unique among my friends for being into cars, and when I first knew her she had a very snazzy red sports car.
I couldn’t take any of the birds with a phone, so this is the view from our lunch bench.
They are taking steps to further rewild the area of the reserve. There is a group of not wild, but free pigs. They’re very gentle and surprisingly unafraid. We met the group together, rooting about constantly under the trees. One came up to me and had a little nibble of my shoe. One was happy to spend a moment meeting the dog - first extra. Another was picking up a crisp packet  - how dare people be so stupid as to leave such litter on the ground in a wildlife area. I grabbed it from his mouth, but later thought he probably was too clever to eat it. You hear awful stories of dogs needing operations after eating plastic.  I thought that one had beautiful, unusual fur. Second extra.
Altogether a magical precious day.
