Sept 17
I needed some plants for a couple of jobs this week but wanted to go to the Sunflower Maze as well as the Garlic Fest. I went to one of the nurseries that doesn't have anything on sale, since they overwinter the plants in cold frames. They were the closest to the other places I wanted to go.
At the Sunflower Maze, they space the plantings in the spring so they have sunflowers in bloom for at least 6 weeks. I had been there a few years ago, earlier in the season, and I never got to the top of the hill to see this view. It was worth the walk to get there. All of the sunflowers were facing the river.
I headed over the the Garlic Fest, it was being held in a new location this year. A local winery had started it several years ago, then during covid, the winery was sold to new owners and they don't seem interested in having the community events. The town of Windsor hosted it, and closed off a street to traffic. Lots of vendors with everything from garlic and fresh veggies to crafts and food items. There was a garlic eating contest, but I didn't stay to watch it.
One of my cousins who lives in Windsor said that family could park in her driveway and walk over. I decided to take her up on her offer. I did get to talk to her in person, for the first time today. Growing up, I remember of visiting her family once, but no details of who was there. Now here is where it becomes a small world. After we became friends on FB, I found out that she is married to a guy I went to school with and they are now living 2 houses down from where I used to live in Windsor. They moved there after I left Windsor.
