White Horses
The White Horses of Wiltshire are carved into the chalky hillsides, some are very ancient, this one at Alton Barnes is only a couple of hundred years old. The oldest in England is thought to be at Uffington, Oxfordshire, and is about 3000 years old. Nevertheless this Johnny-come-lately is still quite striking and interesting.
We are home now after a lovely few days in the New Forest, Hampshire . We came home via Marlborough and the interesting historical landmarks around there. Happy memories for LooseCanon who was at school near there. We also saw the Neolithic Avebury stone circle , 4 or 5 thousand years old, which is enormous, just a couple of the big stones shot from the car in the extra.
