Camanachd Cup
When we bought tickets to see Julie Fowlis last night we hadn't realised that it was part of a wider celebration centred around the Camanachd Cup, a key event in the shinty calendar which being played between Kingussie and Lovat today.
We soon cottoned when we arrived in Kingussie due to the red and blue bunting around town and displays in shop windows. The game is now over and Kingussie won.
Now we know how easy it is to get to Kingussie and back by train we might come for a game at some point.
I got the 9 39 train back this morning which was surprisingly busy, partly because the earlier LNER hadn't run (again) and partly due to the presence of football fans heading to a game (I think). The alcohol ban wasn't being observed - a variety of beverages were being imbibed, including Buckfast as well as beer. However they were goodnatured and (relatively) quiet. I suspect a lot more will be drunk in Kingussie tonight!
