More half mast
This is the roof of the Royal Scottish Academy at the foot of The Mound.
It was designed originally by William Henry Playfair and subsequently adapted. I can only assume the sphinxes were added due to the fascination with Egyptology at the time and the wish to enhance the status of Queen Victoria whose statue dominated the front of the building.
We were in our way to meet and catch up with friends now that the post Festival period has settled in and we can cross the city from south to north again.
