A day at Ightham Mote

A grand place, around 800 years old, with a succession of owners and links with royalty of all sorts. Plenty of changes to the structure over the centuries, lots of history and plenty of interest right up to the 1960s. Much conservation and expense incurred since the National Trust took over the property with the death of the last owner.

The tower was open for visitors, something that rarely happens, which we took full advantage of for the views of the house, it’s rooftops, gardens and surrounding countryside

As well as the house, garden and eponymous mote (moat?) around the property there are over 500 acres of NT land to explore on a series of trails through woodland and farmland giving extensive views over the Weald of Kent.

Mote Farm, a NT tenanted farm, is growing its ambitions to farm in a sustainable way, raising and selling its own animals from the farm gate and growing fodder crops.

Today’s blip is a mono image of a view through the main gate into the courtyard. I thought it looked timeless in mono. In the image you can see the only listed “dog house” in the country.
