Woodford Wells
We haven’t been able to leave the house for a few days, owing to my husband’s health, but today we managed a short local walk.
This photo was taken as we walked along the High Road. This part of Woodford is not called Woodford Wells for nothing! There are several ponds in the vicinity as proof of the underground water supply. This is one of them, which has houses all round it whose back gardens slope down to the pond. Another pond just up the road is nicknamed "The Potato Pond" because the horses and carts coming down the road from the countryside laden with potatoes for market in London would wash them here before continuing on their route*. Unfortunately all the ponds in the area are a bit overgrown now, and could do with some TLC to return them to their former glory.
* I have added a photo of the Potato Pond in extras, taken in 2013 when it looked much nicer than it does now.
