Contemplating The Bay
Portraits are usually more effective with a subject looking at the camera, but sometimes a more evocative shot can be made from behind. I was on my way to the mercado when I noticed this gentleman looking out at our lovely bay. I didn't even get off my bicycle, I just stopped, wrestled my camera out of my backpack, squeezed off a half dozen shots of varying compositions, and was on my way. He removed his hat just as I rode off, which made me very glad I hadn't hesitated when I first saw the photo as I didn't find it near as interesting without the shape of his hat in the frame. Timing can be everything.
