Austhwaite Brow

Some time in the very early nineties, a colleague, Wayne, and I provided support to some people who were doing the three peaks challenge: Ben Nevis; Scafell Pike; and Snowdon. All we had to do was ferry them from their coach up to a car park at the foot of Scafell Pike.

The timing meant that they were doing this leg in the middle of the night and the sun was coming up around the time we finished. There was no satnav then, of course, and maybe we had the map upside down or something, but we ended up driving home along a small road through the hills, which I now know to be Austhwaite Brow.

After breakfast at the hotel, the Minx and I drove back that way, today. It's a beautiful drive and it led us back to a conversation we've had before about making a bit more of the Lakes, as they're right on our doorstep.
