The swans came along to see us and the paddleboarders had plenty of room to keep out of our way on this stretch.
We had a quiet journey down the flight of locks at Fradley Junction then we moored for the night beside Branston Water Park. In the evening we had a one-mile walk around the small lake formed there from an old gravel pit. This nature reserve boasts the largest reed bed in Staffordshire and is important for many species.
It was the first time I had seen little egrets in a tree though I should have expected it as they nest in trees like other herons.
