RHS Bridgewater

A wonderful visit to this important garden, located very close to where my mother was born and grew up. As children we visited Walkden, Worsley, (now Greater Manchester) where my grandmother lived, frequently, and then more recently, to see my great aunt Betty.

The estate of Lord Ellesmere, a hundred acres, is being restored and built as the fourth main RHS garden. Environmental issues, horticultural science and design and climate change awareness, are at the heart of this wonderful place. They have even moved the National Rhubarb Collection here from RHS Wisley.

It was only recently started and the pandemic got in the way too, but they have already produced a stunning Walled Garden, with a Paradise Garden at its heart.

It’s already well worth a visit. And it will change and develop so much over time, it is certainly a garden to return to, again and again.

My blip is of the central part of the Paradise Garden.
