Just another normal day visiting the Gateshead office, but it was improved more than a little by meeting a retired colleague for lunch in the Sage and by meeting briefly with a certain train-driving blipper on the station platforms at both Edinburgh and Newcastle. I happened to be booked on trains ten minutes earlier or later than the ones he was driving, but the train he was taking over at Newcastle came in a few minutes early so he kindly invited me to view the inside of his driver's cab before he had to set off.
