Diary of an Edinburgher

IT COULD BE WORSE

Gosh the hedge looks splendid! It’s a joy to look out on it now. Let’s hope that’s the last cut of the year.

JR went off to the gym, as per, and then she went on down the road to the shopping centre to get her eyes tested again. No deterioration, which is very good news. She’s awaiting her new varifocals, which is something I really should think about too.

Archie and I set for a coffee across the Meadows. He yanks me past several local cafes, even one that he has never been in - he must smell the coffee - but he doesn’t mind the caravan. We sat out in their wee garden area in the sun for ages. I was listening to my audiobook. She murdered a couple of relatives this morning, by devious means, though no sordid sex games this time.

We were actually out for two hours, but when I looked at my step count (4,407) it showed actual movement was about ONE hour, meaning that I did a lot of sitting down. This whole walk is replete with benches, which is ideal (for me). Archie is very patient.

There are still piles of ripped black bags by every overflowing bin in the area, so I don’t see where has actually been tidied up this week when the bin men are back at work (before striking again next week!!) Paper and rubbish strewn everywhere. I cannot look at it, because there is no point in trying to pick it up, the bins are stuffed to bursting. Though I did pick up a whole doughnut, as a dog will grab that and probably be sick. As I came up one main road, it was full of old Fringe flyers, all over the place. Archie and I stopped to look at one, which had the legend:

‘IT COULD BE WORSE’…

When we came home I listened to more of my book until JR came back. They’ve now gone out for another walk, while cricket called for me. It’s nearing the finals of this summer’s ‘The Hundred’ matches, which I have very much enjoyed.

We’ve had a bit of a rethink about the Rockies and Inside Passage cruise next year. This has been on the cards for a few years now, but we’ve realised that it’s such a long way to go, and it’s very weather dependent, and August is the wettest month (we’ve learned from Nicky’s journal). No worries, we can just use our deposit on another cruise, closer to hand.

STOP PRESS: The bin strike is over!!
