Bird day, Tuesday ..

Bird group today .. and we went to some private fishing lakes with lots of lovely and varied habitats.

Although we saw quite a bit of stuff (linnets, white throats, willow warblers, nesting heron, blackcaps, my first speckled wood butterfly of the year) there weren't so many summer visitors as hoped (it's a very late season!) .. and the wind made things hard to photograph.

After the class, I decided to head to head to a local hill to photograph red kites as the weather seemed perfect. And so it remained until I got to the top of the hill, at which point it clouded over and became very chilly. So the kites decided to go home - ho hum ..

After an hour or so I decided to go home myself - and as I walked back to the van the sun came out and I saw this gorgeous wheatear ..
