'n Kiekie 'n Dag

The adventure begins

Got up at 3:00. Left home at 4:30. Arrived at the Eurotunnel in Folkestone at 6:30 & got offered a place on the 7:20 train, rather than the 8:20 which we've booked. It was a bit scary - we did not know what to do & it was so foggy we couldn't see where we were going.

Crossing the Channel went without incident, BUT, at the other side, well that's another story. C was panicing from driving on the wrong side of the road, but all would have been well if we just got on on the motorway & drove to Damme, but we wanted to order some wine at the Calais Wine Store to pick up on our way back. The TomTom's instructions were a bit confusing & we ended up on the tollroad to Paris. We managed to turn around but had to pay a toll charge when we got off & when we got back on again. We might have paid for the lorrie charge, but I'm not even going to go there.

Stopped for pancakes & coffee & tea at Veurne & had a stroll through the town. C forced me to buy throat medicine at the pharmacy. The pharmacist was very adamant that I do not take more than 8 a day. (They did help.)

Then we drove to Oostende to see the sea & stopped at the King Albert statue in Nieuwpoort. Impressive.

Then to our home for the next 3 days, Hotel Ter Polders in Damme. We arrived at 14:40, just in time to have a Jupiler &, because there was no cider, C had to explain what a katembe was before he could order one.

After a shower we walked the 2 miles to Damme & had dinner at St Petershoeve while watching the shenanigans of 2 nesting storks in a tree nearby. C had Flaams stoverij & I was boring with lasagne bolonaise, but it hit the spot.
