Diary of an Edinburgher

Get it sorted!!

We popped round to Mary’s for morning tea when JR came back from the gym. Alice, her daughter who has been here all summer (from Perth, Australia) is going back home tomorrow. Three other neighbours were also there, and Archie was very good, as he’s not keen on lots of noise and loud voices. He just stood and looked miserable, but didn’t make a fuss. Until we started to leave, then he started his silly carry-on, nipping ankles and vigorously growling and shaking his lead, letting us know what he thinks of his entrapment. It’s quite amusing. And entirely predictable.

Back home in time for Elizabeth’s arrival, which cheered him up no end. As soon as they went off (to Auntie Helen’s) we walked down the road to collect Christine and Dougal, for we were going to lunch at Henderson’s, just across the Links. Though we had to pass many many bins with rubbish strewn around them. And in the warm weather, the stink is just awful. Get it sorted!!

We had a very nice lunch (yes, I did ask for the music to be turned down). JR then walked on into town to have a look at the West End Fair, which is there every year with more or less the same things.

Dougal, Christine and I dandered back across the Links, dodging flying golf balls. It always used to be a small ‘putting green’ but over the years it has expanded and takes up far too much room now, with balls no longer just putted, but whacked.

This is traditionally the busiest weekend of the Festival, as it’s an English Bank Holiday, but perhaps the publicity (which has reached the main news in NZ) has put people off, and I don’t blame them. Get it sorted!!
