Tiny Web

I must say the ubiquitous spiders are certainly enterprising! Despite the fact that I do semi regular patrols with my long handled duster, the spiderwebs come back in the house almost as fast as I clear them away. But I had to admire the web around this Bristle Dog's Tail, a grass seed head that is no more than an inch long. 

The Spike Walk is not at it's best this time of year. The grasses are bone dry, the pond has completely dried up and is nothing but a stand of tall sedge, and the meadow has been mowed. I took it as a challenge to find something worth a blip, and I liked the way the sun highlighted the tiny web spun around the points of the bristles. Perhaps there is a tiny spider lurking there, but it was impossible to tell. Thanks to dbufulco for hosting the Tiny Tuesday challenge this month.

Despite the heat, the guys came and mowed our entire two acre field. This is the second time we have had to do it this year because we probably did it too early the first time. I don't think it will have to be done again as there is no sign of life left and the stubble is crunchy underfoot.
We checked the deep drainage swales on either side of the property and they seem to be free of debris, although one has to wonder it would look like if we had heavy rain every day for up to a month. 

We had drinks at Bruce and Cindy's and looked at the remains of the log jam in the creek above their house. They called a halt when they had spent $15,000 and cleared their half of the creek. The people on the other side are uncooperative and wouldn't even let the workers bring their trucks onto their property which would have made the job a good deal easier. 

The county is forming some sort of committee to inspect dams and creeks. Some work work was done earlier this year to divert some of the creek water into Spring Lake but further up by us it is still lined with dead trees and brush and even things like burned telephone poles.

I can't believe I'm even writing about this in the middle of a drought and a severe water shortage. Climate Change is REAL....
