Mostly Peppers
There is a fig in there, a couple of tomatoes and about six green beans.
The cucumbers on our fire garden fence have gone from two inch long, pencil sized to long, fat vegetables in about a week. They could definitely go the way of courgettes turning into marrows overnight if we don't keep a eye on them. Which shouldn't be too difficult as I can see the plant from my bed!
Most of these peppers are shishetos which are mostly mild with one or two fiery hot ones in a batch this size. These grew a bit too large and are likely to be hotter than if we had picked them a week ago. They make a nice hors d'oeuvre flash fried in olive oil until the skins blister and sprinkled with sea salt.
It is hot today (98F) although with a cool morning start we can usually keep the house cool without needing the AC. When we read in the paper this morning that the county is about to outlaw the building of new gas stations we had a discussion about adding more solar panels, another battery and getting an electric vehicle. It's an expensive proposition but we decided that if we waited for the prices to drop, they might have to bury us in the car!
As we enter into fire season once again, hoping and praying that we can dodge the bullet again, and feeling like we have done everything we can to protect our property, we are now being asked to prepare for 'mega storms' that could inundate large portions of the state, cause flash flooding in the creeks and covering essential highways. There's not much we can do to prepare for this except hope that state and local governments do a lot more than they have done to clear creeks of debris strengthen dams and build more reservoirs.
It's a bit ironic that we are having to worry about floods in the midst of a drought, but it's all about climate change. At least people seem to be taking it more seriously now. Or at least the sane parts of our government. I just don't know what to say about the Republicans who won't support any environmental legislation. Considering what he is up against, I think Biden has actually accomplished quite a bit. If we had a more reasonable balance of power in government it could should be a lot more.
