BROKEN GLASS

Rail again . . .
At first we thought this should read ChocVan . . . imagine a railway wagon full of chocolate. Further investigation proved different . . . ShocVans were used to transport glass panels safely by rail.
B853043 was built in 1959 and is now looking . . . grand. These vans have large springs on each side, under the centre doors, the idea was to help with the shocks, when hard shunting was undertaken, when breakable or fragile cargo was being carried.
The wooden wagon body is a little shorter than the under frame. The three white stripes on the side, called Telegraph Codes, as well as on the ends were also on the wagons so you could tell it was a shock wagon. This restoration undertaken by NYMR. Take care everyone !
