Community Food Project. Day One Grapes.
The Feast Day of The Queenship of Mother Mary. Catholic Church.
I have just been following online Mass from Portlaosie in Ireland.
It was beautiful and the choir are excellent. A new priest served without altar servers and did very well. They have a custom of blessing the childrens' school bags before school term begins.
I am going to post a week of food and flowers from the Piggy Park Community Food Growing Project.
A few years ago planning permission was sought and after much consultation at Council level with our green group, Prospects, and local residents, a park was converted into a very productive community food growing area. There is a long list of people waiting to get a raised bed there.
These grapes are coming along beautifully in the polytunnel. The heatwave will have contributed to their success. There are courgettes, strawberries and tomatoes in there as well.
This morning the mothers took a group of excited noisy young children into the forest skills area, while I was visiting the site. It added to the friendly community atmosphere, and they learn about Nature, plants, butterflies and insects, doing fun activities.
I had walked 6257 steps by 11am as this afternoon rain is due. Currently it is very overcast and cloudy, and 21c. I love it like this.
I did a bit of gardening earlier and moved a big flower pot with a buddleia in it. We saw a small tortoishell on it yesterday and that was the first this year. The butterfly count has been very low in Blackburn, except for the more rural places, where ringlets abound and cabbage butterflies.
Well, I must make some cheese on toast now and a coffee. Lunchtime snack.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy your Monday blip friends.
