Enchanted Garden
As planned, we were off the beaten track today and visited two new sights in Boulogne-Billancourt.
Extra 1, 2: On the road with the Velib in the Bois de Boulogne. Due to the extreme summer, many trees are already losing their leaves. We passed Lac inférieur, where the rowing boats were out in the afternoon. Not as we are used to row in sport boats, but still rowing.
Extra 3,4: Île Seguin and a visit to the relatively new music complex "Seine Musical". The building is reminiscent of a riverboat. We couldn't get in, but we could visit the roof garden via the long staircase.
Extra 5,6, 7: Albert-Kahn Museum and Garden (the main blip is from the garden). The museum just opened this April after 5 years of construction work and the new main building is worth a visit. Albert Kahn (1860-1940) was a French banker and philanthropist, known for initiating "The Archives of the Planet", a vast photographic project. Spanning 22 years, it resulted in a collection of 72,000 colour photographs and 183,000 metres of film. Many of them made by a stereographic camera called "Vérascope Richard".
A quote from him in the exhibition:
"Je ne vous demande qu'une chose, c'est d'avoir les yeux grands ouverts".
-
"I only ask one thing of you; keep your eyes wide open".
