Sunset Swim

Bucky Beaver probably had no idea how wonderful he looked swimming in the golden water.
I've learned to recognize the ripple patterns when he's out in the evening so when I went outside to see if there was a Blip subject in sight I spotted the ripples.  When I followed the pattern I spotted him but he was doing something unusual.  He was swimming in circles.  I'd never seen him do that before.  He usually swims purposefully in one direction or the other as though he has an agenda.  Tonight he was just making circles.  I finally noticed a fellow in a kayak sitting very still at the edge of the water watching him.  They seemed to be sizing each other up and checking out who was going to do what.  Finally, when Bucky determined the fellow wasn't a threat he swam close to the opposite bank and continued on his way home.
I'm so grateful that the majority of folks who use the little waterway behind my apartment are very respectful of the wildlife.  They seem to enjoy spotting a heron or ducks but if they're lucky enough to see Bucky and get fairly close to him they seem really happy.
