This is a slightly different view of my July 12 blip.  It's the lane where our former house is and on my way home from the dentist today I noticed a for sale sign on the road.  There are four houses on the lane, all tucked back in the trees.  Ours was the the first one on the left about 20 yards down the lane.  Sure enough, that's the one for sale.  I couldn't resist looking it up on the realtor's website to see what was going on.  It's been remodeled extensively, particularly the kitchen which now resembles something out of House Beautiful magazine.  The price, however, was quite a shock -- $850,000, a whole lot more than what my family paid for it.  I loved the house and was sorry to see it sold, but even if we had kept it, it would be way too big to manage now.
Today's real estate market is frightening so I'm happy renting an apartment.  Even those are getting priced too high and I constantly hold my breath expecting that one rent increase to come along which will mean I have to find somewhere else to live.
