Port Tobacco Dragonfly
This is another dragonfly at Port Tobacco. I am amazed that it let me get so close. Maybe it is seeing its reflection on my lens.
Today we visited Port Tobacco Village and took the tour. It was so fascinating to hear the history of the area. Our guide gave us a VIP tour that included the home of Washington Burch, an emancipated slave whose home is the only existing colonial building in the region. He is known for his public service and for establishing a school for black children.
Washington Burch is also known as the jailer who was forced to release a prisoner accused of murder to a gang of lynchers. Such intrigue! We also visited the site of the lynching at the bridge on Rt. 6 and Rose Hill Rd.
The extras are interior views of a couple of the rooms of one of the restored buildings.
