Sensational

It is our daughter’s birthday today and we had a lovely Zoom chat this morning. I took a few screenshots and this one happened to be the one of Joanne that I liked best.

It was taken at a moment when Greg was showing us the front page of the local paper with its sensational story of a ‘shark attack’ in Penzance. Sounds worrying doesn’t it.

Then they told us the whole story - this wasn’t just a ‘swimmer’ she was actually snorkelling, had gone into the sea from a boat belonging to a specialist shark diving company who provide £180 apiece trips to find sharks. They were 15 miles out at sea. She suffered a few scratches, which may or may not have been shark teeth marks, went by herself to be checked out, and was fine about the whole thing. There is even a thought that it could be a publicity stunt by the shark diving company!

A local official said - ‘Sharks don’t eat people in Cornwall - we won’t be closing any beaches!’
