Mixed grill
As we were milling around before our meeting started, we were talking about language in Tanzania, where the government has successfully installed Swahili as a unifying medium across the country in education and government.
However, English is an important language for dealing with neighbouring countries and the wider world. A two tier system will develop whereby those who can afford to pay for English tuition for their kids will do so, and others will be left with very rudimentary English and be limited in some opportunities. My colleague described this situation as a ‘mixed grill’, which I enjoyed.
Apart from the over-zealous use of air conditioning, there can be no complaints about this meeting venue. The lunch buffet is noteworthy. As I walked back after eating and after a heavy downpour, I passed the deserted beach. The only sound was Barbie Girl playing at the pool bar.
