Dogged

I concluded yet again at work today that being successful requires being extremely dogged. But it must be doggedness whilst being careful with internet search terms.

There’s an approach known as Participatory Market Systems Development (PMSD) which came up in the context of linking community honey production with markets, so it can be more sure to generate income. I googled it and was directed to lots of websites that talk about honey as a way to treat premenstrual syndrome.

It reminded me of when I was researching our Cambodia elephant work where at one time we focused on noise-making to deter elephants from encroaching on fields. A mild and natural explosive substance can be ensconced in pieces of bamboo and thrown, which makes noise and protects crops from wildlife damage. In some parts of the world this conflict is a major contributor to food insecurity so is a regular theme of our work. As useful as the research was, I didn’t want to be on any extremist watchlist as a result.
