Diary of an Edinburgher

Spot the dog…

An ex-colleague, whom I taught with in her first year’s teaching, came over with her son. I used to look after Leo when he was a wee toddler - it exhausted me! He’s a big lad now.

Leo loves some of my iPad games, and always wants to have a go, but this time he brought his latest toy - a VR headset, with two hand controls. He insisted I have a go.

I knew I wouldn’t like it, as I suspected it would make me feel dizzy, and yes, it did. I was standing in this VR environment on an open grill with a huge drop below!! I honestly couldn’t look down. Then a big red person stood in front of me and I had to punch him. Or shoot him. I gave up. Leo was a wee bit disappointed at my lack of staying power. I prefer iPad games. NO VR!

We all then had a walk in the Hermitage. (Extra) Actually, they went on to the cafe at the end of the walk, but we took a shorter detour and came back through the paddock. 5,365 steps was enough to exhaust me. Even a Magnum and the finals of the badminton doubles didn’t revive me.

Later in the afternoon, after a big rest, we all went down to visit Christine and to see her new furniture, in her newly decorated front room, which is very lovely. Archie was delighted, because Elizabeth was there too. We had The Most Amazing Spread! But the highlight of the evening, after the food, and the bubbles, was the playfulness of Dougal and Archie. It was SO nice to see, as it’s taken such a long time! They played and played and played. Then they snoozed. They they played again.

PS Christine has invited the neighbour down tomorrow to help with any left over food.
