Communication

You may recall that I posted a picture similar to this on 4th August, showing a pedal that was resolutely failing to communicate with my PC, meaning we couldn’t fine tune the tone. Fortunately, it worked fine at the gig on Friday, albeit I couldn’t hear it clearly through my monitors.
So today I took it through to Stuart - aka “The Pedal Whisperer” - to see if we had any more success if we hooked it up to his Mac. And we did. Eventually. We had to buy a new data cable, and it took a bit of head scratching before we worked out how to do the firmware update, but we were finally able to delve into the software and do some tweaking. Apart from altering some of the output levels in an attempt to make it louder in my in-ear monitors, the only real tinkering was to try different amp and cab simulations.
After trying all the cabs, the default setting sounded best, but we did change the amp sim to match it. So, in theory, it should now sound like I’m playing through an Aguilar Tone Hammer amp into an Aguilar 8x10 cab. A combination that would physically cost over £3,500. The pedal cost less than £150. I call that value for money!
When I got back home I tried connecting to my PC again and - as you can see - this time it communicated, because the firmware was now up to date - yay! This means I can make further tweaks (should any be necessary) without having to pester Stuart. Though, just because I could change the settings doesn’t mean I should! Some things are best left to the experts…
