I won't always look like this!
I haven't blipped a bird for days, well not for 2 days! Luckily one of our two regular Adelaide Rosellas came back to the bird feeder. You may recall I blipped this same scruffy bird with his mother back on March 27th. He was starting to look a bit threadbare back then and today he looked even worse.
On March 22nd I blipped the parent bird for this same youngster.
No doubt he was trying to tell us "The end of summer moult got a bit out of hand and even my neck is now bare. But I am sure I won't always look like this!" He also may be telling us that he is sick and in real trouble.
Felt a bit sorry for him really as no bird should have to look this bedraggled, as if he had been dragged through a bush backwards. So for this unflattering look, he wins my blip award for the day, to have his photo shared with all my blip friends who can now see his fine purple neck - without feathers.
" See my remaining feathers!"
The Adelaide Rosella (Platycercus adelaidae) is specific to South Australia. Although it was thought to be a separate species, it is presently believed to have originated through interbreeding of the Crimson and Yellow Rosellas.
