Birmingham 2022
On the last full day of the Commonwealth Games we went to a sweltering Birmingham Smithfield venue to watch the final of the Beach Volleyball. There was no shade from the afternoon sun as we watched England beat Rwanda for an historic first ever bronze medal. Brilliant atmosphere! Sell out arena. Great supportive crowds.
Security was very tight too with armed police on the street and at strategic vantage points on high buildings surrounding the city centre. Police units from London, Essex and Wales were clearly visible. Double decker buses from Dundee, fresh from ferrying golfing punters at St Andrews were now shuttling spectators around The Bullring!
Hats off to Birmingham for picking up the hosting baton when Durban could no longer afford to do it.
Thanks to C and L for facilitating our attendance.
Happy Birthday to C!
